It’s 1967. Nichelle Nichols is finishing filming the first season of Star Trek and she starts receiving offers for theater roles. Her heart was in the theater, and it was very exciting. With trepidation, she goes to the office of Gene Roddenberry and tells him how sorry she is, but she has to leave the show so she can advance her career in the direction she was hoping for. She was a musical theater actress after all, on a science fiction TV show. Gene was upset, and asked if she understood what he was trying to do there. He asked her to take the weekend and think about it.
