I met Nic working at a call center. I had just gotten a job at ABT associates, which is a company that cold calls people for surveys. Some are commercial, but the one I was working on was for the CDC.
I’m a very quiet person. later on, Nic would tell me that some people thought I was “stuck up” but really, I was just shy and socially awkward. He was the opposite.
I first saw him in the group training. He had worked there previously and was just coming back, so he knew all the managers. He was so animated and outgoing in the training, joking with the trainer and acting out. He was handsome, charismatic, and I really wanted to get to know him.
We got to talking on a cigarette break and after a bit he invited me to come hang out after work. We got drunk and stoned and watched Equilibrium I think, and hooked up.
It didn’t last long. He started making plans with me and then cancelling them. I later found out he was trying to work things out with his former fiancee. I ended up dating someone else as well, which is a whole different dramatic story.
I lost my job there due to health issues and didn’t really see him again for years.
I ran into him a couple times randomly. On New Years a couple years later, I was blind drunk and went to Cumbys on my walk home. As I was finishing my purchase, the cashier said “Bye Erin”, at which point I realized it was him (like i said, I was very drunk).
Those times were fairly spread out and didn’t lead into anything, until 3 years after we had met.
